A hill fire that erupted in Kai Kung Leng, Pat Heung, Yuen Long on Saturday was successfully extinguished by Sunday afternoon after burning for over 20 hours.

As of 10 am today, two active fire lines, each covering an area of 10 meters by five meters, were still burning.
Firefighters worked tirelessly through the night, and with the assistance of the Government Flying Service, which conducted water drops in the morning, and two hill fire teams from the Civil Aid Service, the wildfire was finally extinguished 20 hours later at 2.08 pm.
The fire initially broke out at about 5.30 pm yesterday (Jan 11). The fire line extended for 80 meters, with flames spreading from the mountainside to the peak, visible from afar. Upon receiving the report, the fire department promptly dispatched team members to combat the blaze.
During the incident, a couple hiking in the area found themselves trapped but were rescued by helicopter.
Early morning today, as the fire expanded into segments of 200 meters and 500 meters, a nearby dog shelter was at risk. Fortunately, by 5.30 am, the fire behind the shelter had been extinguished, securing the safety of the animals housed there.
