Elizabeth Quat Pei-fan, founding president of the Greater Bay Area Low Altitude Economy Alliance and lawmaker, highlighted the untapped potential of the low-altitude economy (LAE) during her speech at the Joint Low Altitude Summit held at HKU on Friday.
Quat described the LAE as a vibrant and rapidly developing sector that is part of the country's development to foster new quality productive forces and promote industrial upgrading.
She hoped that the summit would enable participants to understand the current trends in LAE and proactively address the challenges and opportunities presented by advancements in technology, business practices, and regulatory frameworks.
Highlighting the significant potential for further development in scientific research within the LAE, Quat said the alliance was formed to support the country's efforts to advance the sector along with other popular industries.
The alliance's goal is to harness the capabilities of various stakeholders to forge a collaborative and efficient low-altitude economic ecosystem, she said, adding that it aims to enhance the development of low-altitude transportation, logistics, and other industries in the Greater Bay Area, positioning the GBA as a leader and demonstration area in the global low-altitude economy.
Quat stated that since the alliance’s inception in September, it has organized various LAE-related activities, including panel discussions, exchange sessions, and sandbox pilot projects.
Additionally, Quat said they have submitted proposals and ten suggestions to the administration as well as engaged with the Working Group on Developing Low-altitude Economy, led by Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong Wai-lun, to advocate for the comprehensive adoption of LAE in Hong Kong.
