Two finless porpoise carcasses were discovered at Tuen Mun and Sai Kung on Monday, accumulating to four such incidents so far in 2025.
The Ocean Park Conservation Foundation received a report yesterday (Jan 6) to investigate two instances of porpoise stranding. The carcasses, found in a severely decomposed state, were transported to Ocean Park for dissection and further analysis.
One of the incidents occurred at Cafeteria Beach located in Tuen Mun. The stranded young finless porpoise of unknown gender measures approximately 93 centimeters in length. The other stranded carcass of an adult finless porpoise of unknown gender, measuring 134 centimeters was found in Nam Wai Village in Sai Kung
The Ocean Park Conservation Foundation urges the public to report any suspected cases of cetacean, shark, and skate strandings by calling the 1823 hotline. It is crucial to provide the time, location, and photos of the stranding to allow the task force to respond promptly.
The foundation appeals to the public to avoid leaving trash behind when visiting the ocean to help protect marine life.
