The Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair kicked off on Monday (Jan 6) at the Convention and Exhibition Centre and is part of three fairs themed “New Play for All” organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
A representative from an electronic toy company recalled that participating in the fair has helped them break into new markets, including Japan, South Korea, Russia, and various Eastern European countries.
The number of clients from these markets increased by 40 percent last year, whereas the majority of clients were previously European and American buyers, the exhibitor added.
An exhibitor presenting remote-controlled cars made from eco-friendly materials shared their hopes of bridging the gap between European and American markets, noting that these regions have stricter standards for environmental protection.
Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau Ying-wah emphasized that Hong Kong has been a trading hub for toys and baby products and that the government will support local businesses in capitalizing on opportunities in the Greater Bay Area.
He also noted that the authorities will continue to provide more facilities, including the expansion of AsiaWorld-Expo and the redevelopment of Wan Chai North, which will offer more exhibition venues for the industry to meet trade partners and explore opportunities in Hong Kong.
