Public Sentiment Index and Govt Appraisal drops to new low in two years

The latest Public Sentiment Index (PSI) has fallen to its lowest since Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu took office in 2022, according to a survey published by the Hong Kong Public Opinion Research Institute (HKPORI) on Tuesday.

The survey shows that the "Society Appraisal" figure has dropped below the threshold of 100 for the first time -- now at 99.2 -- representing a decline of 3.6 points.

The latest "Government Appraisal" score stands at 108.8, a slight drop of 0.5 marks, but remained relatively stable over the past 27 months.

As for the overall PSI, HKPORI said there have been no significant ups and downs over the past 27 months. 

However, given that the GA score has hovered below 110 during the most recent half-year, the latest PSI has dropped by two points from July to below 108, marking a new low since Lee took office.
