The University of Hong Kong (HKU) announced on Thursday that it would "strategically amend" the Global Innovation Centre (GIC) development plan in Pok Fu Lam based on feedback from different stakeholders.
The amendments come after the Town Planning Board's collection of over 3,500 pieces of feedback during the two-month display period for the plan.
Opposition has emerged from nearby entities, including Baguio Villa and the Ebenezer School & Home for the Visually Impaired, which raised concerns about noise and vibrations potentially affecting visually impaired students.
Environmental groups have also expressed concerns about the impact of removing 2,000 trees.
HKU said it would review the plan by reducing the density of the proposed development and bulk of the buildings, increasing the setback area from neighboring buildings, designating more green spaces in order to address stakeholders' opinions as much as practicable.
The University emphasized that it would remain committed to developing the GIC to meet its objectives while respecting the livability of the neighborhood in Pok Fu Lam.
Earlier this year, the Town Planning Board approved a zoning change for the land from "green zone" to "other specified uses."
The Planning Department plans to recommend that the land be temporarily designated as "undetermined use," allowing HKU to further review and adjust its development plans.
The Town Planning Board will consider public opinion during the hearing before making a decision next month.
