The organs of a brilliant 18-year-old teen who died on Wednesday following the tragic Tin Shui Wai crash will be donated to those in need to extend their love and kindness to society, the family has said.
The incident involving a blue Tesla occurred outside Tin Shui Wai MTR station on Monday afternoon, leading the teenage girl Rachel Cheung Wing-han to sustain severe injuries. Despite two days of emergency treatment Wing-han was pronounced dead at 1.30 pm on Wednesday.
Cheung was a secondary six student at Yan Oi Tong Chan Wong Suk Fong Memorial Secondary School who had just finished sitting her DSE exams. The school’s vice principal Chan Ka-chun said Cheung was loved by teachers and her classmates and the school was saddened by her passing.
Speaking to the media, Wing-han’s parents – both faithful Christians – believe their daughter has now returned to her heavenly father. They also said Wing-han has been their angel and a gift from God. She was very talented and had been uploading her illustration work on social media that would stun even professionals, they added.
“Life is like a roller coaster ride. I love to express my feelings through drawings and love it better to inspire others to become interested in drawing,” the bio of her Instagram page reads.
In one of her works she writes: “People shouldn’t live for their past but should look forward.” In another work, a person is seen smiling and remaining hopeful despite drowning in a sea of papers and books.
Her father said Wing-han surprised him with a cake on Father’s Day but he was so happy that he forgot to give her a hug. The accident occurred the next day and he could only give her a hug in the hospital bed.
Her mother added that Wing-han had been working a part-time job at the airport and she would complete all her chores before leaving at noon for her 2 pm shift. She continued that Wing-han loved kids and aspired to become a kindergarten teacher.
“I believe you will let mom donate your organs to help those in need.” she said. “It'll feel like she is still living in other people after the donation,” the father added.
As for the liability of this incident, the dad said compensation means nothing and he only wants justice to be served. The mom said she wants an apology from the driver.
