In the morning, numerous worshipers flocked to the Cheung Chau Pak Tai Temple, where incense filled the air and three large bun towers returned to their prominent place.
The vibrant Piu Sik Parade will be starting at around 2 pm, followed by the exhilarating Bun Scrambling Competition at midnight.
As the Cheung Chau Bun Festival takes place, many citizens arrived on the island in the morning to immerse themselves in the festival. Outside a bun shop, a long queue formed with eager customers.
One individual mentioned waiting in line for an hour and expressed his intention to purchase over ten buns, symbolizing peace and well-being for the family and friends, wishing for smooth sailing and good health.
Some mainland Chinese students studying in Hong Kong also joined the celebrations, excited to experience the festival for the first time and eager to enjoy the Piu Sik parade.
An owner of a bun shop said the foot traffic has been better than expected. However, he predicted a 10 to 20 percent decline in sales compared to last year as the Bun Festival did not fall on weekends.
He further mentioned that in previous years, they would introduce new bun flavors during the Bun Festival. However, in the past year or two, they shifted their focus towards cultural and educational initiatives.
They introduced a bun-making workshop, allowing visitors to handcraft their own buns while learning about the stories behind them.
The workshop, which has been running for about seven months, has already welcomed over ten thousand participants, and received positive feedback.
