The first-ever ethnic minority female driver in the city's bus industry encouraged others on Mother's Day to be brave enough to pursue their dreams by breaking the convention.
The transport sector in Hong Kong used to be dominated by male local drivers. However, there is a trend of ethnic minorities and women joining the industry, creating a harmonious working environment.
Farzana is the first female ethnic minority to serve as a bus captain at CityBus.
Farzana, a 46-year-old from India, is not just a dedicated mother to her two children. She is also a professional bus captain, responsible for the safety and comfort of thousands of passengers.
This Mother's Day, she demonstrated her commitment to both roles, inspiring others with her dedication and resilience.
Farzana's journey was not without its challenges. Many passengers initially doubted her abilities and even used derogatory nicknames.
However, she earned their trust through her actions and dedication after joining CityBus for eight months. Today, they seek her out even when she's not on duty, a testament to her perseverance and the respect she has earned.
Farzana has extensive driving experience and has been in the transportation industry for over a decade. She decided to join CityBus after seeing a female bus captain driving the double-decker bus and thought that she could also do the same.
She invited her daughter to ride on the double-decker in her early days as a bus captain. Her daughter told Farzana that she was proud of her after the ride, which serves as a memory she holds warmly in her heart to this day.
She hoped to encourage more people to participate in the industry and believed there were many works that ethnic minorities could join and shine on.
