Mainland tourists who visited Hong Kong on Thursday during the Labour Day ‘golden week’ holiday crowded the entrance of the University of Hong Kong for photos, as they were not allowed to enter the campus for visit without prior registration.
Under the latest arrangement effective from May 1, tourists have to make a booking if they are to visit the university between 8 am and 6.30 pm from Monday to Saturday. They won’t be required to do so if they are visiting the school at night, on Sundays or public holidays.
The move came after student and staff complained about an increasing number of visitors coming to the school to take photos and sight see.
Some tourists told reporters that they were unaware of the new arrangemnt and was disappointed not being allowed to tour the campus, but they expressed understanding towards the new measure being put in place to protect students.
According to the official registration system, all available time slots for the next couple of days have been taken already.
