A seven-year-old boy is now in intensive care after he was thrown off Kowloon City Plaza on Monday by his 58-year-old father who later plunged to his own death, suspectedly because he was overwhelmed with gambling debts.
The tragedy was reported to police around 9.30 pm by a security guard who found both collapsed in the back alley on 144 Carpenter Road.
The father was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital but was eventually pronounced dead at 10.17 pm. The boy was rushed to Kwong Wah Hospital and remains in the intensive care unit.
Investigation by the Kowloon City district crime squad revealed that the father had brought his son to the rooftop on the 6/F around 8.30 pm and threw him off before throwing himself to his own death.
It is understood that the father, a logistics worker and a taxi driver, was addicted to gambling and owed a significant amount of debts.
Police said they are investigating the case in multiple directions, including his motive, financial status and the amount of debts.
The case was listed as attempted murder and suicide and the boy is now under the care of the mother.
