Hong Kong chief executive John Lee Ka-chiu stated on Tuesday that people who are heading care teams for their own benefits are not needed in Hong Kong.
This statement came after the Yuen Long Shui Wah care team, headed by former Yuen Long district councilor Ken Chow Wing-kan, stopped operations, citing a lack of resources, among other reasons.
Before a meeting today, Lee said that under the current care team systems, whenever someone leaves their care team post or if the government ceases the services of an existing care team, they will swiftly select a new one and arrange for a nearby care team to provide services if need be.
The Hong Kong leader said that if a care team ceases services after not being elected to the district council, then these people are doing this just for their own gains and are unneeded in Hong Kong.
He added that anyone who was not nominated to participate in the district council should also self-reflect.
Lee pointed out that he hopes that those who do not aim to serve the community will not be the ones to organize the care teams, as there are many others who would excel at this role and serve the community wholeheartedly.
