A hearing has been scheduled on January 23, 2024, according to the website of the judiciary.
The bankruptcy petition was filed by the Secretary for Justice and 41-year-old Hui was listed as the respondent.
Hui was involved in four criminal cases and was granted bail by the court to leave Hong Kong in November 2020 over a foreign visit to Denmark in the capacity as a legislator.
He announced his exile as he set foot on Danish soil, spurring the DoJ to press four more counts of contempt of court against him for missing the hearings and misleading the police that he would return to the SAR afterwards.
The High Court last year found Hui guilty of all four counts of the charge and sentenced him to three-and-a-half years’ imprisonment. The court also ordered him to pay the legal costs.
This July, national security police issued a HK$1 million bounty on eight former lawmakers and activists, including Hui.
Hui is accused of inciting secession and subversion, colluding with foreign forces, advocating Hong Kong independence, and calling on other countries to sanction Hong Kong.
