The humanities subject for primary schools will be categorized into six areas - including "Our Country and I" and "Community and Citizenship" - according to the curriculum framework announced by the Education Bureau on Thursday.
Other subject aspects are Health and Living, Environmental Protection and Life, Economic and Financial Planning, and Our World and I.
Under the Our Country and I category, the learning focuses on understanding China's historical evolution, the significance of national security, and the constitutional relationship between the country and the HKSAR, etc.
Understanding the Chinese People's Liberation Army Hong Kong Garrison and the Hong Kong National Security Law are among the new topics covered, as well as learning the Belt and Road Initiative and the Greater Bay Area to familiarize students with the country's latest developments.
The Bureau recommended the overall teaching hours for humanities subjects per year for primary one and two students be around 37 hours, while at least 56 hours for other senior classes.
About 4,000 spots will be offered annually to teachers to participate in training courses for the subject.
Separately, it was learned that the Bureau is "actively considering" canceling the written exams for primary one and two science classes, while the details of the Internal Assessment for science and humanities subjects for primary five and six students will be announced later.
The General Studies for primary schools will be divided into science and humanities subjects and implemented progressively starting September 2025.
