This news was made known by a tweet from Falcon Feedsio on Tuesday, a free threat intelligence platform built for cyber security researchers and enthusiasts. The tweet wrote that “Trigona #ransomware group has added Cyberport Hong Kong (cyberport.hk) to their victim list. They claim to have access to more than 400GB of organizations data.”
It is understood that the data includes personal information of employees working at startup companies located at Cyberport, as well as confidential documents of the companies. The data had since been put up for sale online.
Commenting on the case, Cyberport said they had discovered on Thursday that an unauthorized access into their computer system had been made by a third party, and has since contained the situation - switching down the affected computer systems and conducting an investigation with the help of cyber security experts.
The company has also filed a report with the police and alerted the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data of the incident.
Cyberport pledged to provide appropriate assistance to the affected individuals, and will enhance their cyber security system. The company also established a dedicated email to handle and follow-up on the incident.
