A 51-year-old man and his father were sent to hospital after he burned charcoal at their Ma On Shan home to commit suicide. The man was later arrested for attempted murder, and the father fell unconscious.
The incident occurred at around 4.15 pm on Friday and was revealed by the man’s 53-year-old sister, who went home to the village house in Chek Nai Ping, Ma Liu Shui.
Their 90-year-old father had fallen into a coma in his room, but the man, surnamed Au, remained conscious. They were both sent to Prince of Wales Hospital.
After a preliminary investigation, police arrested Au for attempted murder. He was remanded in custody, and the case was passed to the Sha Tin district crime squad.
Sources said the father had high blood pressure and had to stay in bed most of the time.
Sources also said Au decided to commit suicide together with his father because of recent financial troubles.
