A nurse was injured when part of a false ceiling of a ward in Kwai Chung Hospital collapsed Sunday night.
The hospital announced late Sunday that a piece of false ceiling, measuring approximately 60 centimetres by 31 centimetres, fell off at the treatment room of a female general adult psychiatric ward at around 8 pm and hit a nurse.
She was sent to the Princess Margaret Hospital for a check-up after feeling mild pain on head, and it was confirmed the pain was not serious.
The hospital has expressed sympathy and will assist the staff concerned.
Maintenance staff has arranged emergency repairs and the cause of the incident is under investigation. Inspections of all false ceilings in the ward concerned were also conducted, and no abnormality was noted. The incident did not involve structural safety and concrete spalling.
The hospital will investigate the relations between the incident and recent works on removing and installing false ceilings. The workers concerned are also reminded to pay attention to the incident and make necessary follow-ups.
A piece of false ceiling at Kwai Chung Hospital's corridor also fell in April. No patients nor staff were injured in the incident.
