A 56-year-old woman was hospitalized after she was hit by a police car driven by an officer in plain clothes on Wednesday. It was understood that the car was running in the opposite direction when traveling on Fung Wan Road in Tai Po.
The woman named Au sustained an injury to her waist and the cop immediately reported the incident to his colleagues and called an ambulance for the woman.
There was another female officer onboard the vehicle at the time, and other police officers soon arrived at the scene to investigate the incident. Au was later sent to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in Tai Po in a conscious state.
Live sources said there was a cement truck parked by the roadside, obstructing the sight of both the driver and the woman.
Police said the incident occurred around 1.07 pm on Wednesday when the police car reached an intersection and made a right turn into Fung Wan Road. The car – suspectedly running in the opposite direction – then struck Au who was crossing the road at the time.
Police added the case is now handled by the New Territories North traffic headquarters and the involved officer has been suspended from all driving duties.
Police stressed that all on-duty officers controlling a vehicle must follow the traffic rules stringently, and any breaches by officers will be followed in a serious manner.
