(Central Station) HK first electric double-deck bus to commence service

Hong Kong's first-ever electric double-deck bus officially commenced service Sunday.

The first trip of the electric double-deck bus departed at noon from the Eastern Hospital Road Hong Kong Stadium Bus Terminus to Kennedy Town. It will operate exclusively on Route 5B from June 19 to July 2.

It will be deployed in Kowloon to operate Citybus Routes 20, 20A and 22M that run from Kai Tak to Tai Kok Tsui, Tsim Sha Tsui and To Kwa Wan from July 4 for a trial period, subject to the approval from the Transport Department. 

"With the electric double-deck bus and later the first hydrogen fuel cell double-deck bus, we can run these new energy buses in parallel to gather valuable operational data that can assist the government in the formulation of a comprehensive zero-emission transformation plan,” Citybus and New World First Bus General Manager Operations Roger Ma said.

Citybus has pledged to operate a full fleet of zero-emission buses across operations by 2045, which is five years ahead of the government's carbon neutrality target.
