Rescuers believed they have found the body of a 52-year-old woman who was swept away by flash floods while hiking along Wang Chung Stream in Pat Sin Leng Country Park, off Bride’s Pool Road in Tai Po.
It is understood the woman’s body was found at around 9am this morning, and will be airlifted by Government Flying Service helicopters for further inspections.
Police said on Wednesday that the woman, surnamed Yeung, and her male friend in his 40s started hiking at 9.30am yesterday and reached Dragon Ball Waterfall at around noon.
It was said they then changed to their swimming outfits to take a dip in the gully downstream of the waterfall. But then a strong rush of water ran down the waterfall and brought Yeung with it.
The man lost sight of her and called the police, who said they received a report at 12.39pm.
Police, firemen and Government Flying Service helicopters were deployed as Fire Services Department divers scoured the gully's lower stream.
The woman, who has a son and a daughter, works in a hardware company as a clerk, according to sources.
The accident happened nearly two hours after the observatory issued the second red rainstorm warning signal of the year at 10.45am.
