You have probably heard of all the drama surrounding the launch of the Bioceramic MoonSwatch watches - a collaboration between Swatch and luxury watchmaker Omega. However, a watch lover in Hong Kong was left disappointed by it after it allegedly left dye stains on his wrist.
The Omega-Swatch timepieces from the collection - selling for HK$2,100 each - were recently traded for up to HK$20,000 on reselling platforms in Hong Kong shortly after they were launched.
Penning his review on the Facebook group “Omega X Swatch Moonswatch,” the unhappy customer Jeffrey So said he was not impressed by it, and the timepiece he bought “felt super cheap.”
He uploaded a picture of his wrist, apparently stained by his new “Mission to Neptune” MoonSwatch.
First, he claimed that the crystal – the glass that covers the face of the watch – “had scratches all over it.”
He reported that the dye on the back “seems to leak into your skin,” as shown in the photo. He added that this issue happens on the “Sun” and “Mars” models as well.
So explained that the warm temperature is the likely cause of the stain, which caused moisture to get into the watch and the color to transfer.
The “Mission to Neptune” watch from the collection features a blue “planet” at the back of the watch, where he alleged the color was from.
He also criticized the quality of the strap, saying that it feels like “garbage” and that he would “rather have rubber.”
“Overall, not impressed” was So’s verdict on the watch.
On Saturday (Mar 26), the launch of the MoonSwatch was met with much frenzy in the territory, with long queues and large crowds seen outside Swatch outlets across the city in the early morning, hoping to get their hands on the new collaboration.
The unlimited MoonSwatch collection - the first collab between Swatch and Omega - is sold at HK$2,100 each.
The Omega Speedmaster, also known as the Moonwatch and costing about HK$40,000 to HK$50,000, was the first watch worn on the moon, thus, making it a collector’s item, according to the Swiss watchmaker.
Traders quickly attempted to cash in on the new watches in recent days, offering to sell them for up to HK$20,000 each on the online trading platform Carousell. The timepieces were even sold for up to 40,000 yuan each on the mainland.
Swatch earlier said on its Facebook page that the watches are not limited and “will be available online at a later stage.”
