A 56-year-old nanny pleads guilty to one count of child abuse at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today after she was caught on tape throwing a baby girl onto a playmat when feeding her.
The nanny, surnamed Chung, was arrested earlier for ill-treatment or neglect by those in charge of child or young person after the footage surfaced online.
Magistrate Minnie Wat Lai-man said given the defendant’s action involves a breach of trust, immediate imprisonment would be possible.
The case was adjourned to July 16 for sentencing, pending the obtaining of background and psychological reports of Chung.
The incident took place on the morning of June 18 at Tsui Hon House of Tsui Ping Estate in Kwun Tong, where Chung was hired by a family to take care of an 8-month-old baby girl.
Chung was then caught on surveillance camera throwing the baby girl onto a padded playmat after the infant was crying as Chung was trying to feed her.
The infant was fine after examination at United Christian Hospital.
