Three members of a student group “Returning Valiant” were arrested by Hong Kong national security police in a series of morning raids today triggered by a burglary of a secondary school yesterday.
A post left on the group’s Facebook page confirmed some of its members had been picked up at their homes early this morning and arrested in connection with the national security law.
According to reports, the arrests were triggered by a Wednesday morning burglary of a local secondary school in which four others were arrested.
The four were also members of the student group.
A police source said officers have found items from the suspects’ homes during the morning raids that advocate Hong Kong’s independence, violating the Hong Kong national security law.
The source also said some of the alleged burglars, also members of Returning Valiant, were being investigated under the national security law.
Among the group are four teenage boys detained after an alleged burglary at a Tseung Kwan O secondary school in the early hours of Wednesday. The burglary suspects are understood to be secondary students themselves, with some attending the school in question.
The student group this morning said lawyers were on the way to find out the situation.
“Political suppression will not deter us…. We will continue to assemble talent and fight tyranny,” the group added.
