Microbiologist disputes virus 'under control' claims by Matthew CheungHong Kong | 20 Feb 2020 12:06 pm
Microbiologist Ho Pak-leung said today the coronavirus outbreak is definitely not "under control" and the situation could get out of control.
Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung said before attending a Legislative Council meeting yesterday that the outbreak is under control, but urged people to stay vigilant due to infections in the community.
Ho said the outbreak is only under control when there are no new confirmed cases in 14 days – the incubation period of the virus.
He urged Cheung to admit that his remarks were incorrect and questioned whether the top officials have "woken up yet."
Ho also said authorities did not start using relevant a "supercomputer" to track close contacts since the first confirmed case in Hong Kong, which is shocking, and that the government was waiting for virus cases to appear every day.
