Several striking hospital employees and opposition lawmakers rallied to demand Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor discuss their demand to shut down all land border crossings with the mainland to prevent a wide outbreak of coronavirus in the city, RTHK reports.
The leader of the union, Hospital Authority Employees Alliance, Winnie Yu Wai-ming, said Lam had earlier said they should not resort to radical means and talk to the government about their demands.
But Lam has so far refused to meet them, said Yu.
A succession of pan-democratic lawmakers are also turned to offer support the striking employees.
Civic Party lawmaker Kwok Ka-ki, who is a medical doctor, said that the strike was not for personal benefits.
Kwok also blasted CE's order to officials not to wear masks if not needed, calling it "cold blooded".
They rallied on the footbridge connecting the Admiralty Centre to the Central Government Offices in Admiralty.
