The median monthly salary of employees in Hong Kong stands at HK$20,500, 3.6 percent up from the previous year, according to the latest statistics from the Census and Statistics Department released yesterday.
The median monthly wages of male and female employees, as well as employees across different age groups, education levels, occupational groups, and industry sections, all recorded increases.
The median hourly wage from May to June 2024 was HK$82.9, 3.5 percent higher than the HK$80.1 recorded in the same period of the previous year.
The median hourly wage for male employees was HK$93.3, while female employees earned HK$73.2. Employees aged 35 to 44 had the highest median hourly wage at HK$97.2, followed by those aged 25 to 34 at HK$86.7 and those aged 45 to 54 at HK$83.9.The authorities said a sample of about 10,000 business undertakings was selected for the survey.
The survey defines wage to include basic wage, commission and tips not of gratuitous nature, guaranteed bonuses and allowances, and overtime allowance paid to an employee in the survey period.It does not cover bonuses and allowances of gratuitous nature, end-of-year payment and payments in kind.
