Martial arts actor Donnie Yen Chi-tan, singer Joey Yung, and MC Cheung Tin-fu will headline the grand opening of Kai Tak Sports Park on March 1.
The mega event celebrates Hong Kong's largest sports infrastructure project.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu will officiate a brief ceremony before a series of performances featuring elite athletes and artists from Hong Kong and the mainland will be staged.
"The performances will revolve around four thematic segments - unity, inheritance, advancement and diversity - showcasing Hong Kong's role as a cultural and sports exchange hub," Law said.Local arts groups, including the Hong Kong Dance Company, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, dragon and lion dance troupes, as well as local violinists and a singing and dancing ensemble from Jilin, will offer a vibrant mix of music and dance.
Participating celebrities include singer Gin Lee, 1977 Miss Hong Kong Loletta Chu, George Lam Tsz-cheung, Sally Yeh Chien-wen and Frances Yip Lai-yee. Mainland artists Li Yuchun and Zhang Jie will also grace the stage.Notable athletes from Hong Kong, such as retired gold medal-winning fencer Vivian Kong Man-wai, badminton mixed pair Jordan Tang Chun-man and Tse Ying-suet, and table tennis player Doo Hoi-kem are part of the celebration.
They will be joined by mainland stars like badminton player Lin Dan, table tennis player Fan Zhendong and rhythmic gymnast Guo Qiqi.Law said the legendary "Four Heavenly Kings" of the 1990s - Jacky Cheung Hok-yau, Andy Lau Tak-wah, Leon Lai Ming and Aaron Kwok Fu-shing - will not attend due to scheduling conflicts, but she expressed hope they will perform at the venue in the future.
A total of 33,600 tickets will be distributed, with the government and the sports park operator each handling 16,800 tickets.Of these, the government will reserve 8,300 tickets for grassroots citizens, district council members, and personnel from various community committees, as well as government-invited guests from the sports, culture, and tourism sectors.
About 8,500 tickets will go on sale through Urbtix at 10am today on a first-come, first-served basis. Each buyer can get up to two tickets, which must be collected at the sports park from February 27 to March 1."People are encouraged to collect their tickets in advance to avoid peak hours and to familiarize themselves with the transportation and facilities," Law said.
She said the event will be recorded and broadcast on four free-TV channels - RTHK, TVB, ViuTV and HOY TV - from 9.30pm, three hours after the ceremony begins.She clarified that while the stadium's facilities are capable of live streaming, the decision was made to ensure a comprehensive showcase of the performances, complemented by prerecorded videos highlighting the park's features.
