A probe has found that vice syndicates have been arranging teenage sex workers from the mainland to take part in the illegal sex trade in Hong Kong hotels, with some claiming to only be 16 years old.
An investigation by Sing Tao Probe uncovered the trafficking and exploitation of young mainland girls by vice syndicates, where they were made to engage in prostitution for quick money.
Reporters posing as "clients" contacted the middleman of a syndicate advertised on various social media platforms.
They were arranged to meet a girl in a Yau Ma Tei three-star hotel. The girl in the room disclosed that she was just 16 years old, stating she had arrived in Hong Kong just a day before.
The reporter made an excuse and turned down her services only to be ordered to leave the room immediately by the girl.
After contacting the middleman again, two days later, another girl was offered at a Tsim Sha Tsui hotel who claimed to have just finished junior high school.
She noted that she was introduced by a friend to prostitution in Hong Kong to help her earn quick money, and claimed to work 12 hours a day on a visitor visa.
In response, the police said they are highly concerned and are committed to combating illegal prostitution to lessen the nuisance to members of the public that vice activities may cause.
