A total of 30 billion cubic meters of Dongjiang water has been supplied to Hong Kong since the launch of the Dongjiang-Shenzhen Water Supply Scheme six decades ago.
The Department of Water Resources of Guangdong Province (DWRGP) stated Saturday (Mar 1) that Dongjiang water supplies nearly 80 percent of Hong Kong's freshwater.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Guangdong authorities have introduced a series of regulations and systems to comprehensively protect the quality of Dongjiang's mainstream, key water source areas, and 20 reservoirs and lakes.
Officials from the DWRGP also highlighted that Guangdong has established a multi-dimensional monitoring system, enabling real-time safeguarding of the project's operations.
Additionally, the Water Supplies Department will arrange for mobile exhibition vehicles to showcase information on Dongjiang water supply to Hong Kong, touring various districts across the city in March.
