A private car ran a red light and collided with a light rail train in Tuen Mun, injuring three people in the car.
The accident occurred around 7pm on Saturday (Feb 22). The white BMW crashed with the train near the Tuen Mun Swimming Pool station on Hoi Wong Road.
Dashcam footage shows the driver waiting at the intersection of Hoi Wong Road and Hoi Wing Road, but it suddenly ran the red light, ignoring honks from another vehicle and the approaching light rail train.
The train was unable to brake in time and crashed with the car, causing the car to spin around.
The left side of the BMW was severely dented with airbags deployed, while some parts of the light rail train fell loose in the front.
According to police reports, the light rail captain is a 40-year-old man surnamed Ho, while the BMW heading to Tuen Mun Ferry Pier was driven by a 37-year-old man surnamed Li with a 33-year-old female passenger and a six-year-old boy.
Officers said both the captain and driver passed the alcohol test. The BMW driver and the female passenger reported neck pain, along with the boy, were sent to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment and examination.
MTR confirmed that the collision between the 614 light rail and the private car occurred at 7.18pm on Saturday (Feb 22), noting no passengers reported discomfort.
The Light Rail service was slightly disrupted but resumed normal operations shortly after at 7.25pm.
