A total of 32 cases involving fabricated academic credentials for academic applications were identified by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) last year, an increase of 10 cases compared to 2023.
In its annual report released on Monday, HKCAAVQ stated that these cases were reported to the police.
The council pointed out that 866 applications were deemed non-assessable among the assessment of overseas academic qualifications.
The reasons included fake qualifications, qualifications unrecognized in the applicant's home region, failure to provide sufficient information and voluntary withdrawal of applications.
The HKCAAVQ reiterated its zero-tolerance stance towards the use of forged qualification documents and emphasized that it verifies credentials through databases from other countries or regions.
