A Cathay Pacific flight from Boston to Hong Kong has been forced to make an emergency return shortly after takeoff due to smoke detected in the cabin on Monday. No injuries have been reported.
The flight CX811 departed the Boston Logan International Airport at 3.23 pm Hong Kong time Monday and was scheduled to arrive in the city at 5.21 am the following day.
After the Airbus A350 had taken off for 30 minutes, the crew reported an emergency involving the detected smoke in the cabin.
The plane stopped its ascent at 5,000 feet and circled over Massachusetts Bay to dump fuel before safely returning to the airport after almost an hour in the air.
Multiple emergency vehicles were on standby as the aircraft approached. The Massachusetts Port Authority said the plane landed "without incident."
