The inaugural ferry from the new terminal carried 219 passengers and headed to China Hong Kong City, cutting the journey by an average of 20 minutes compared with the old Zhongshan Port.
It will only take about 50 minutes to reach Shekou in Shenzhen, Hong Kong International Airport, and about 65 minutes to China Hong Kong City as the new port opened.
It will operate three routes, including 14 daily trips between Hong Kong International Airport and the China Ferry Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui, as well as four trips to and from Shekou Port in Shenzhen.
The new port features 12 berths and 16 entry and exit channels, with an annual capacity of up to 2.77 million passengers.
In the first three days of the opening, tickets for the China Hong Kong City and Shekou routes will cost only 1 yuan, while tickets for the Hong Kong International Airport route will be half priced, with standard adult economy-class tickets priced at 175 yuan.
