Hong Kong can expect to welcome some 1.15 to 1.2 million mainland tourists during the National Day Golden Week holiday - up 20 percent from last year, said Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu.
Additionally, about 850 mainland tour groups will travel south to the city, with most staying overnight, marking a 10 percent rise from last year’s figure.
The Hong Kong leader told the press on Tuesday that the SAR government places great importance on welcoming tourists into the city.
A dedicated task force coordinated by Chief Secretary Eric Chan Kwok-ki, which includes multiple government departments and discipline services, has endeavored to ensure smooth border operations and public order, providing all visitors with a pleasant experience, he said.
Lee also noted that public transportation arrangements will be strengthened for Golden Week, especially in handling the crowd at Victoria Harbour for the fireworks display on National Day.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong will launch more than 400 celebratory activities in celebration of National Day, with half-price movie tickets and discounts at various eateries and transport services on offer, said Lee, adding that such initiatives could bring in increased economic activities.
