Kwai Chung Hospital announced on Tuesday that bedbugs were found in a sealed heating facility and on ten beds in a post admission care unit, where four male patients were bitten.
This comes after a male patient reported itching skin on Monday (Sep 16), with staff members finding bedbugs on the patient's bed.
All affected mattresses and pillows in the ward concerned have been disposed, and linens disinfected and replaced.
The hospital said yesterday it is extremely concerned about the event and has arranged for a professional pest control vendor to manage the bedbugs in the ward. The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department was also informed to arrange for a pest control expert to inspect the ward concerned.
It will also work with the pest control vendor to investigate the source of the bedbug infestation and implement proactive measures to prevent the breeding and spreading of bedbugs within the hospital.
