It said today that the Designation of Museums (Amendment) Order 2024 will be tabled before the Legislative Council next Wednesday (May 22) for negative vetting.
The conversion will take place on September 3 to mark the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.
The museum will focus on the history of the war, including activities to enhance patriotism among the public, particularly youngsters, regarding the war and to pay tribute to its martyrs.
The museum will also launch various programs such as lectures, historical study tours, workshops, traveling exhibitions, and interactive dramas.
A special gallery will be dedicated to regular thematic exhibitions on the war of resistance, organized in collaboration with cultural institutions on the mainland.
To further elaborate on the theme of coastal defense, the museum’s exhibition space will be expanded to introduce more content on China’s coastal fortifications in Hong Kong and the Guangdong area.
The first thematic exhibition, jointly presented with the Shenzhen Municipal Cultural Relics Bureau, will be launched in September and will introduce the deeds of the East River Column in joint resistance efforts in Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
The museum’s opening hours will remain unchanged after the conversion, and admission is free.
