The Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre (KITEC) will operate until June 30, according to the notices received by the commercial tenants.
With a total gross floor area of 1.76 million square feet, KITEC hosts office space and event venues for business, concerts, exhibitions, conferences, banqueting, and entertainment functions. It also includes E-Max, a 900,000-square-foot shopping and entertainment mall.
E-Max has posted a closure notice and stated that the mall would be providing normal service until June 30. It also thanked the tenants and curators for their support of the KITEC and hoped to meet with everyone again with a new look.
KITEC was purchased by a consortium led by Billion Development and Project Management for about HK$10 billion in 2021.
In March last year, the Town Planning Board approved the reconstruction of KITEC into three commercial buildings, providing about 1.77 million square feet of floor space.
Internet users say that they will miss the venue and look forward to its transformation from a "ghost town" into a bustling area.
Some were confused and worried about the prospect of the renovation, as creating more office areas might not be beneficial at the current time.
