Octopus Cards on Monday announced the pilot program for the “Octopus - China T-Union Card” - which lets cardholders to take public transport hassle-free in more than 336 cities across the country covered by the China T-Union transport network.
Customers can purchase the new card and use it to pay for transport fares anywhere in the mainland with the China T-Union logos.
The transportation fares for the cardholders will be deducted in yuan in the mainland, as the card is automatically updated with the market foreign exchange rate effective on the top-up date.
Inbound visitors to Hong Kong can also use the National Renminbi Transit Card to pay for the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge shuttle bus in the direction from Hong Kong to Zhuhai and Macau.
Bus fare payments will be settled in yuan according to the fare collection system’s foreign exchange conversion from Hong Kong dollars.
The new card works the same way as an ordinary Octopus card in Hong Kong, and is accepted at over 180,000 access points for transportation, shopping, dining and more in the city.
The card - priced at HK$88 each - will be available at all Circle K stores and designated MTR Customer Service Centers starting Tuesday (Mar 26).
The first edition of Octopus - China T-Union Card does not require a deposit and can store up to HK$3,000 in value, the company said.
