The first hydrogen bus in Hong Kong, operated by Citybus, hit the road on Sunday and was welcomed by a group of bus enthusiasts.
The 119-seat zero-emission bus embarks on its first journey at 11 am, with a bunch of fans boarding the vehicle to share the joyful and historic moment.
Some bus fanatics lined up with cardboard for the bus, while one said he had even written a song for the bus and has been waiting since 3 am.
The hydrogen double-deck bus, running on Route 20, will travel between Kai Tak and Cheung Sha Wan with stops in Kowloon City, Yau Tsim Mong and Sham Shui Po Districts.
A daily of 6 to 8 trips will be scheduled in the initial phase, while the green bus will expand its operations to two additional routes - 20A and 22M - in the next phase.
Citybus said it has introduced Hong Kong's first electric double-deck bus in 2021 and remains committed to introducing additional next-generation hydrogen and electric buses for parallel testing and deployment this year.
The company also pledged to operate an entire fleet of zero-emission buses by 2045.
