The two locations chosen for the pilot scheme include the intersection of Carnarvon Road and Granville Road in Tsim Sha Tsui and the intersection of Sha Kok Street and Yat Tai Street in Sha Tin.
The department said the two intersections are suitable for running the pilot scheme after traffic and pedestrian flow has been assessed.
The installation of relevant facilities at these intersections has been largely completed, it added.
The department noted that it has been keeping tabs on the development of pedestrian crossings around the world and recognizes that diagonal pedestrian crossings can shorten the distance and time required for pedestrians.
However careful studies and considerations of the characteristics of each intersection will be conducted to avoid significantly affecting traffic when implementing such measures, it said.
