Staff at Tai Lam Centre for Women announced on Thursday that they successfully intercepted a female inmate who had ingested drugs to smuggle into the correctional institution.
A 45-year-old woman in custody was previously detained on November 28 (Tue) for trafficking in dangerous drugs.
After the correctional officers arranged for her to undergo an X-ray body examination, they suspected that she had swallowed drugs before being taken into custody, so they isolated her and monitored her closely.
At 3:02 pm yesterday (Nov 30), the person in custody discharged a package of suspected drugs weighing approximately 18 grams and wrapped in adhesive tape.
The Correctional Services Department has handed the case over to the police for follow-up.
A spokesman for the Correctional Services Department said that the Department strives to take preventive measures to intercept the flow of drugs and unauthorized items into correctional institutions to ensure good order and maintain a "drug-free" detention environment.
