The 2023 Sun Hung Kai Properties Hong Kong Cyclothon will kick off tomorrow as the UCI Class 1.1 Road Race as well as the 50 km and the 30 km ride, also making their return after five years.
Adam Kwok Kai-fai, executive director of Sun Hung Kai Properties, said he was happy to be cycling at the Tai Lam Country Park alongside cyclists from the SHKP Cycling Academy, SHKP Supernova team and Team Jayco AlUla from Australia.
Apart from enjoying the exquisite views of Hong Kong’s countryside, they also had a taste of some local cuisine in Sham Tsang.
Kwok also said many foreign cyclists were surprised to learn that it takes only half an hour to reach the country park in a busy city like Hong Kong.
He added that the cyclists from the SHKP Supernova team proactively interacted and exchanged experiences with the Australian cyclists and learned a lot.
Alvin Ngai Chung-ki, who has been participating in tournaments in France and Australia since 2021, has signed for ARA Skip Capital and will represent the team in this year’s UCI Class 1.1 Road Race.
He noted that cycling in Hong Kong remains challenging and hopes he can finish within the top 5.
As for Hui Chun-hei who joined the academy in 2021 and the Supernova team in 2022, he hopes he can finish the 50 km race in one-and-a-half hours.
Hui said he learned a lot from the academy and the team and will continue to work hard to catch up with foreign cyclists.
