The toll fees of Tai Lam Tunnel will increase starting October 8, up HK$3 to HK$58 for private cars and HK$5 to HK$64 for light goods vans.
For motorcyclists, the fee will go up from HK$26 to HK$28.
Private and public minibuses will see a HK$9 increase as the new rate stands at HK$126.
Double-decker buses see the biggest jump of HK$16 from HK$197 to HK$213, while the fee for single-decker also climbs by HK$13 to HK$180.
The government cited Route 3 (CPS) Co Ltd, saying that the patronage of the tunnel was affected by Covid-19 and the recently-opened free alternative routes over the past two years.
The operation costs also went up, so the company decided to cut benefits to all vehicle classes to improve its income status.
The government also said it has urged the company to thoroughly consider the public’s affordability, level of acceptance and overall public interest when formulating the relevant strategies.
