The Immigration Department announced on Monday that starting from April 12, two enhancements will be made to the appointment booking arrangements for identity cards application in light of the increasing demand.
According to the department, the appointment bookable period of the Registration of Persons services appointment booking system will be extended from 24 working days to 96 working days, so as to facilitate members of the public to make appointments for services.
Meanwhile, in view of the rising demand for replacement of identity card services since the resumption of travel, starting from April 12 (Wednesday), residents already in possession of Hong Kong identity cards reaching 11 or 18 years of age may make appointments to replace their Hong Kong identity cards during the extended service hours at four designated Registration of Persons office.
Since March 6, the working hours of four designated offices, including the Hong Kong Office, Kowloon Office, Kwun Tong Office and Tuen Mun Office, have been extended to 10pm for processing applications for replacement of new smart identity cards.
However, the department reminded that applicants reaching 11 or 18 years of age who have never registered for an identity card are only allowed to make an appointment booking during normal service hours for the first registration of identity cards.
