As Hong Kong sets out to phase out disposable plastic food containers, 7CAFÉ – one of 7-Eleven’s own brands renowned for its freshly brewed coffee on the go that is convenient, good quality, friendly and affordable – takes one step further to make your daily cuppa even more sustainable.

Currently the largest coffee network with over 600 outlets in Hong Kong, 7CAFÉ has been using 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified Arabica coffee beans since 26 October. It is also rolling out new 7CAFÉ paper cups and lids made from more environmentally friendly materials.

“In addition to providing customers with a convenient shopping experience, 7-Eleven has been developing more new products and new elements, such as the newly launched 7CAFÉ coffee, paper cups and lids that are less harmful to the environment, while retaining 7CAFÉ’s original flavor to bring new experience to customers and promote the importance of environmental issues,” says Alex Liu, Managing Director of 7-Eleven Hong Kong & Macau.

Conserving rainforests with fresh flavors

All coffee beans at 7CAFÉ are premium beans sustainably sourced from coffee farms that are fully certified by the Rainforest Alliance in Brazil, Honduras, and Indonesia.

The beans are then freshly roasted in Hong Kong with a unique “Fully City” coffee roasting technology, ringing of full, rich nutty-like almond and herbaceous notes, savoring a delicate flavor and ending with a smoky sweetness aftertaste.

As you take a sip of your 7CAFÉ coffee, don’t forget that your brew comes from the small amount of coffee beans that meet the stringent standard of the Rainforest Alliance, a non-profit international environmental and sustainable development organization established in 1987 that uses social and market forces to create a more sustainable world.

Every cup counts – and the lid too

7CAFÉ has switched to paper cups and lids made from greener, more environmentally friendly materials.

In particular, its new cup lids are made from 100% biodegradable bagasse, while the cups are now made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper.

FSC certification ensures that the trees that are used to produce paper are grown on plantations which do not contribute to deforestation, thereby preserving the biodiversity and ecosystem of the forest and reducing carbon footprint.

Efforts to protect the planet do not stop here, as 7CAFÉ will keep looking for ways to be more sustainable so that customers can enjoy a cup of great tasting coffee that makes a difference.
