Hong Kong gymnast Shek Wai-hung, now in Cottbus, Germany for the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup, lost his chance to compete in men’s vault final after he tested positive for Covid-19.
Shek was scheduled to compete at the final on Sunday (Feb 27), but was forced to pull out due to the positive test result. He was subjected to seven-day quarantine.
His teammate Ng Ka-ki was also quarantined after testing positive. So far both of them are asymptomatic.
If the two test negative following the seven-day quarantine, they will be allowed to leave Germany for the next stop of the tournament in Doha, Qatar.
Their female teammates Angel Wong Hiu-ying and Charlie Chan Cheuk-lam have traveled to Doha for the competitions between Wednesday (Mar 2) and Saturday (Mar 5).
