Silka Seaview Hotel Hong Kong in Yau Ma Tei will serve as a quarantine hotel for close contacts of confirmed Covid-19 patients starting Monday next week (Jan17).
The government made the announcement on Wednesday night, saying the arrangement came due to the recent surge in cases tested positive and substantial increase in the number of close contacts that needed to be quarantined.
With immediate effect, the hotel ceased to be a designated quarantine hotel under the sixth and seventh cycles of the Designated Quarantine Hotel Scheme and stopped taking reservations for inbound travelers.
Persons currently undergoing quarantine at the hotel will be transferred to other designated quarantine hotels in phases to continue their quarantine in accordance with infection control guidelines.
Lei Yue Mun Park and Holiday Village as well as three quarantine hotels have been activated as well on top of Penny's Bay Quarantine Center, the government added.
Authorities are also making preparation to activate Junior Police Call Permanent Activity Center in Pat Heung and Sai Kung Outdoor Recreation Center for receiving close contacts and their household contacts.
Including the 268 units to be provided by Silka Seaview Hotel Hong Kong, there will be around 5,000 units in total for quarantine of close contacts to cope with the demand stemming from the current pandemic situation.
