Citizens can expect to visit the Bishop Hill Reservoir in mid-December, as the Water Supplies Department finishes reinforcement works on site.
The century-old reservoir, located in Shek Kip Mei, was earlier listed as a grade one historical building by the Antiquities Advisory Board.
The department said guided tours will be provided starting mid-December to June next year, with a quota of around 1,000 places available each month. Online reservation for the tours will open on December 1.
Tours will run throughout the week, and each will last around 90 minutes. The number of visitors will be capped at 12 per tour and the use of the LeaveHomeSafe app will be required.
Tour guides will also be arranged to lead the way and explain the history of the cistern, and allow visitors to enjoy the architectural design of the place.
Ventilation systems and lighting will be installed within the reservoir, while platforms were also in place to facilitate citizens’ visits.
Aerial photos earlier taken by citizens revealed that a glass roof and other new structures have been built at the underground reservoir.
Two sets of stairs have also been constructed on the hilltop leading up to the reservoir. Some of the surrounding land has been covered with artificial grass while a white path runs around the site, which remains sealed off to the public.
