Two people died in an accident involving a Lamborghini and two other vehicles on Bride's Pool Road in Tai Po at 10.15pm on Sunday night.
A Honda driver involved in the crash was arrested for dangerous driving. A motorcyclist also crashed nearby after arriving at the scene shortly after the accident.
The tragedy occurred near a popular barbecue area on Bride’s Pool Road, a notorious black spot for traffic accidents.
The Lamborghini Huracán Performante was nearly totally destroyed and remained in a crumpled heap after the crash, while another car, a Toyota Corolla, was left upended and emitting acrid smoke.
The deceased, two men aged 20 and 41, were the drivers of the Lamborghini and the Toyota. Police said the Lamborghini driver was declared dead at the scene and the other at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital.
A 24-year-old female passenger in the Toyota was also seriously injured and sent to North District Hospital in an unconscious state, before being transferred to Prince of Wales Hospital.
The Honda driver, his two passengers aged 24 and 25, as well as the motorcyclist were injured and sent to hospital.
It is understood that one of the two cars was driving in the opposite direction of the traffic flow and crashed into the oncoming Lamborghini, causing the accident.
All four vehicles involved were impounded for further inspection and police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
Sunday also saw three other fatalities on Hong Kong's roads and highways.
They include a 60-year-old man, who was knocked off his bicycle on the North Lantau highway by a coach; a 51-year-old woman, who was run over by a private car on Shek O Road in Chai Wan; and a 57-year-old man, who fell off his cycle in Tai Po.
