A merchant was sentenced to 27-month imprisonment for he pretended to be a cop who worked with regional commander of Kowloon West Rupert Dover and tricked a 14-year-old girl into performing oral sex for him.
Chan Pak-kit, 27, had earlier pleaded guilty to one count of falsely pretending to be a public officer from August to November in 2020 and one count of indecency with children under 16 on November 1, 2020.
The 14-year-old girl, identified as X in court, met Chan last August, who claimed he was a Shatin district senior inspector of police. Chan also told X that he worked in a special tactic unit under regional commander of Kowloon West Rupert Dover.
On October 31 last year, X told Chan that she wished to leave home for a night and asked for Chan's help. X then secretly left home and met Chan, who brought X to an hourly hotel in Mong Kok.
Chan in the hotel room asked X to perform oral sex for him and demanded her to act like women in pornography videos. Although X refused at first, she did what Chan asked her to do as she was afraid of him.
The next morning Chan brought X home and asked her to pretend as if she didn't know him at all. X then reported the incident to police and provided some of the conversation she had with Chan.
Today in District Court, judge David Dufton slammed Chan for impersonating a cop to gain the trust of the girl, adding that Chan took advantage of the girl's young age and immaturity and committed the crime.
He pointed out the serious nature of the case as Chan is at least 10 years older than the girl. The court has the responsibility to protect young children and must hand down a sentence with deterrent effect.
Dufton there fore sentenced him to six-month imprisonment for impersonating a cop and 42-month imprisonment for indecency with children under 16. The two sentences were reduced by one-third to 28 months as Chan pleaded guilty.
Dufton also took into account other mitigation factors and reduced his jail term by another month, sentencing Chan to 27-month imprisonment.
